Tyrese Haliburton has been impressing the Indiana Pacers during the 2023–24 season, making him a standout player for the team. Haliburton is the driving force behind the Pacers’ top-ranked offensive team in the league, which leads in practically every statistical category. The Pacers are the best offensive team in the league.

During the game against the Boston Celtics, the 23-year-old player made history by contributing his first two assists of the evening. It was his 400th assist of the season, which places him in a category of top players alongside Magic Johnson, one of the greatest players in NBA history.  The only two players in the history of the National Basketball Association (NBA) to have scored at least 700 points and dished out at least 400 assists in the first 32 games of the season are Haliburton and Johnson (1988–1999).

The standout player for the Pacers has played in 32 games so far this season and has averaged 24.2 points and 12.7 assists per game. During this season, he has already had 14 games in which he has recorded ten or more assists in a single game, bringing his overall number of assists to 405 for the season. In addition, Haliburton became a member of the elite club by scoring 20 points and dishing out 20 assists consecutively in two games.

As a result of their defeat at the hands of the Celtics, the Indiana Pacers ended their six-game losing run. Haliburton delivered a performance that was among the worst of his individual games this season. He shot 29.4 percent from the field and 22.2 percent from outside the three-point line, which resulted in him scoring 17 points. When the game was over, he also finished with seven assists. The game that Tyrese Haliburton played against the New York Knicks was outstanding, and it occurred at the ideal moment and possibly against the ideal opponent. This resulted in the Pacers top player tying the franchise record and joining the exclusive club of legendary players from the Los Angeles Lakers, including Magic Johnson and John Stockton. For the first time in more than three decades, he became the first player to have consecutive games with at least twenty points and twenty assists.

In the most recent instance, Stockton accomplished this feat on March 1 and 3, 1990. The game that Haliburton played against the Chicago Bulls resulted in him having 21 points and 20 assists before the game against the Knicks. In addition to that, he tied the franchise record for the most assists in a single game for the franchise. He tied Jamaal Tinsley for the record, which the team had held since that day, through his performance against the Washington Wizards on November 22, 2001.
