Giannis Antetokounmpo keeps his promise to former Milwaukee Bucks scoring leader Michael Redd: "I'm going to break your record"

The Milwaukee Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo destroyed the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night, scoring a career-high and franchise-record 64 points. By doing so, Antetokounmpo fulfilled his promise to former Bucks star shooting guard Michael Redd.

Antetokounmpo had a fun discussion with Redd in 2021, when he held the Milwaukee scoring record (57 points) for nearly 17 years until Wednesday. Redd was told by the two-time MVP that he intended to break his own record. The former All-Star then sheepishly admitted it was fate, saying that he was lucky to have the record at all.

"One day, I'm going to break your record," Antetokounmpo said."I'm confident you will. "I just got lucky one night," Redd said."Hopefully, I can get lucky one night too," Antetokounmpo joked back. Antetokounmpo's record-breaking night was most likely not coincidental.

given that he didn't score a single three-pointer while scoring 64 points. He instead shot 20-for-28 (71.4%) while grabbing 14 rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Regardless, the 29-year-old superstar put on a show that Bucks fans will never forget.

Milwaukee trounced Indiana 140-126 at home on Wednesday, thanks to Giannis Antetokounmpo's franchise-high 64-point performance. After the game, the superstar forward expressed gratitude for breaking the record in front of Bucks fans.

"I try to play basketball to win, try to play basketball to help my teammates be great, but at the end of the day, being able to break this record in front of the fans here in this stadium, it's a great feeling, too," Antetokounmpo said in a news release.

Last Thursday's 128-119 setback to Indiana in the NBA In-Season Tournament semifinals was avenged by the Bucks. Wednesday's win was their second in a row since being eliminated from the tournament.

Meanwhile, the Pacers' loss ended a four-game winning streak that included Saturday's 123-109 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in the In-Season Tournament finals. Milwaukee (17-7) will play the league-worst Detroit Pistons (2-22) on Saturday. Indiana (13-9) will play the struggling Washington Wizards (3-20) on Friday.
