Claims that Thunder rookie Josh Giddey dated a child are being investigated by the NBA.
Josh Giddey, a player with the Oklahoma City Thunder, is accused of having a relationship with a juvenile. Multiple media sources claim that Josh Giddey, a 21-year-old basketball player for the Oklahoma City Thunder, is accused of having a relationship with a child.
The claims, involving a junior in high school, surfaced on social media, and the NBA stated that it is looking into them. The revelation was initially reported by The Athletic, who referenced an NBA spokesperson Mike Bass's statement stating that the league is investigating Giddey's charges.
Although Bass "offered no further information" when reached, NBC News reported on the inquiry as well. The Oklahoma City Thunder and the NBA remained silent until this piece was written. According to the Associated Press,
the accusations originate from an anonymous social media user who shared pictures and videos of Giddey with a young child and claimed that the girl was a junior in high school. The individual has since deleted their account.
When questioned by reporters about the situation at a Friday practice, Giddey and his coach Mark Daigneault declined to comment. Giddey responded, "I understand the question, obviously, but there's no further comment right now."
"I get the question guys, I completely understand you guys want to know about it but just for right now, I don't have anything to say," he responded when pressed once again.
Daigneault referred to the claims as a "personal matter" and declined to respond to any queries about them. He declared,"And I have nothing to say about it. And I'll respond to anything connected with that.
Born in Melbourne, Australia, Giddey joined the NBA this year after the Thunder selected him sixth overall in the 2021 NBA Draft.
With an impressive average of 12.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game, he has been contributing to his team's 11-4 record. The Thunder's next home game against the Philadelphia 76ers is scheduled for this Saturday at 5 p.m.
