NBA: Ja Morant punished 25 games next season for 'detrimental to league' behavior.

The NBA on Friday stated that Ja Morant, a player with the Memphis Grizzlies, would serve a 25-game suspension beginning with the 2023–24 season.

The NBA determined that Morant's actions were damaging to the league, which led to the ban.

On May 14, the Grizzlies also suspended Morant from team activities following the viral social media video that showed the player brandishing a gun.

Notably, Morant was suspended for similar behavior in March of this year.

After the Grizzlies player was spotted carrying a gun on an Instagram Live at a bar in the Denver area while intoxicated, the NBA suspended him for eight games.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver stated in a statement, "Ja Morant's decision to once again wield a firearm on social media is alarming and disconcerting given his similar conduct in March for which he was already suspended eight games."

"It's especially alarming because other young people would model their behavior after Ja's.

The statement said, "In these circumstances, we feel a 25-game suspension is appropriate and makes clear that engaging in reckless and irresponsible behavior with guns will not be tolerated."
