Rebeca Andrade, the great gymnast from Brazil, might be about to win even more awards.
The current Olympic gold medallist in vaulting and the 2023 World Champion are up for two Panam Sports Awards nominations: Changemaker and Best Female Athlete.
Voting for the winners is open to fans until December 5 on the Panam Sports website. The winners will be revealed live in Miami on December 9 at a ceremony.
Since being the first South American woman to reach the women's all-around podium in Tokyo 2020—finishing second behind American Sunisa Lee—the 24-year-old has been on an incredible tear. She won a historic Olympic vault title a few days later.
Andrade has won nine medals in the three global Championships held since Tokyo 2020, including two vault gold medals and the global all-around championship in 2022.
From the 2023 competition, she won a total of five gold medals. In an exclusive interview with Olympics.com, Andrade said of her 11 career World and Olympic medal haul,
"I don't think I imagined the number of medals, but I really wanted that." "I realized it was possible as soon as I decided that was what I wanted."
