Two-time World Series champion Vic Davalillo died after emergency surgery.

Vic Davalillo, a two-time World Series champion, died at age 84 or 87 after emergency surgery in Caracas. 

– Conflicting birth dates: Baseball Reference lists July 30, 1939; Davalillo considered July 31, 1936, as his birthday.

– First Venezuelan-born player to win a Gold Glove; Leones de Caracas will honor him with a jersey patch.

– Began with Cincinnati Reds in 1958 as a left-handed pitcher, later sold to Cleveland in 1961.

– Won the batting title in Triple-A International League in 1962 with a .346 average.

– Made major league debut in 1963, hitting .292 with seven homers and 36 RBIs for Cleveland.

– His season was interrupted by a broken forearm from a pitch by Detroit’s Hank Aguirre on June 12.
